ProtoStar Ltd., a Bermuda-based acquirer and operator of geostationary satellites for DTH satellite television in the Asia-Pacific region, has raised $50 million in third-round venture capital funding. No investor information was disclosed for the deal, which follows a recent $40 million Series B round that included VantagePoint Venture Partners, New Enterprise Associates and RedShift Ventures. Oak Pacific Interactive, a China-based provider of Internet products, has agreed to buy Xiaonei.com, a Chinese social networking site for college students, according to Red Herring. Oak Pacific plans to merge Xiaonei.com with existing asset 5Q. No financial terms were disclosed. Synacor, a Buffalo, N.Y.-based provider of online content and technology solutions for broadband and Internet service providers, has raised $17 million in Series C funding. Leonard Green & Partners is nearing a deal to buy Irvine, Calif.-based aftermarket motorcycle parts company Motorsport Aftermarket Group Inc. from Duff Ackerman & Goodrich, according to LBOWire.

Digg Inc., a San Francisco-based provider of online news/blog rating services, entered into possible acquisition talks with such suitors as News Corp., according to Tech Crunch. A deal seems unlikely, however, as none of the offers reached a $150 million bottom threshold. The result is that Digg likely will seek additional VC funding. It already has raised around $3 million from firms like Greylock and Omidyar Network. http://www.digg.com

Skyrider, a Mountain View, Calif.-based peer-to-peer networking platform provider, raised $12 million in Series C funding. GetWellNetwork, a Bethesda, Md.-based provider of software, hardware and other services to aid healthcare providers care for patients, closed a $9 million Series B round of funding. Edgeio, a Menlo Park, Calif.-based online classified ad service developer, has raised $5 million in a first round of funding led by Intel Capital and including Transcosmos, according to VentureBeat.

Neocase, a San Francisco-based provider of customer service software, raised $6.5 million in its second round of venture funding. Iris Capital led the round, which included Caisse des Depots et Consignations (CDC) and Supporter Group.
