Expedia to Buy Back Up to 30M Shares - Shares of travel web site operator Expedia Inc. surged Friday on the company’s plans to buy back up to 30 million shares in a tender offer priced between $18.50 to $22 each. The buyback represents up to 9.8 percent of outstanding shares, and 9.1 percent of outstanding Class B common stock. It becomes effective Dec. 11, and will expire on Jan. 10, 2007.
ValueClick Acquires Shopping.net - ValueClick, Inc. (Nasdaq:VCLK – News) today announced that it has acquired Shopping.net, a privately-held company based in London, for approximately $13.3 million in cash, net of cash acquired. Shopping.net owns and operates 27 websites that provide comparison shopping, search and vertical market content to European online consumers.

SF’s Clickshift, Sausalito’s Newgate - Web analytics’ WebTrends has acquired online ad optimization provider ClickShift for an un-disclosed amount. ClickShift sells marketing optimization tools for multivariate testing of CPC campaigns. Additionally, Arizona-based Search Engine Marketing agency iCrossing bought Newgate Internet, a paid search, reputation management, and word-of-mouth agency. Newgate boasts of ties to Williams-Sonoma, The Gap and Lego.

Amazon Is The Sole Investor In Wikia’s Second Round; Wikia Acquires ArmchairGM - It’s a shift from the crowd that invested in the$4 million first round earlier this year from a group including angel investors, Bessemer Venture Partners and Omidyar Network. Part of Wikia’s round (amount undisclosed) includes the purchase of the sports community site, ArmchairGM for more than $2 million, underscoring how Wikia is having to reach out to acquire talent and technology. Wikia says it will use the ArmChairGM technology to help it incorporate user-generated news and voting into future Wikia fan sites.
