is he an Athlete?
No, I am not an athlete. However, I do
enjoy playing sports and staying active. After a childhood of near obesity
(big bonedness), I have worked my way into a decent athlete. After tearing up my
left knee and undergoing two reconstructive surgeries, I hung up my basketball shoes
(except when duty calls) and took up trail running and adventure racing in 2003.
Below you will find some interesting factoids concerning my short amateur athletic career. |
adventure racing
This is one of the hottest sports to hit the U.S. in decades
because it is one of the only events that combines team work with endurance racing (i.e.,
trail running, mountain biking, kayaking). I started training as a Team In Training
participant for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Here are some of my training and
recent race logs:

I started running actively in February 2003 as part of my
adventure racing training and discovered that I really enjoy it! I especially enjoy
trail running because it combines my love of running with climbing. Here are some of

basketball
I'm a huge fan of the Houston Rockets (NBA World Champions
1993-94, 1994-95) especially now that they have the best Chinese player on the planet, Yao
Ming! If you are a fan and want to listen to the games, check out Clutch City Radio.

football
I'm a huge fan of the Tennessee Titans
(fka the Houston Oilers, Tennessee Oilers). Too bad I live in a place where I appear
to be the only fan. If you are a fan and want to listen to the games, check out Titans Radio.

scuba diving
Scuba diving is the closest I will ever come to feeling
weightless - unless I become an astronaut or discover the best diet in the world. My
favorite dive locations include the Great Barrier Reef and the Grand Cayman Islands.
Cozumel is overrated and overrun by Japanese tourists. |
miscellaneous
Some other athletic activities I enjoy include the
following: ballroom dancing, beer chugging, martial arts, painting, racquetball, sailing,
and golf. |
